The cover features in the June 2012 issue of Computer examine computing in Asia, which covers a wide spectrum of research and development activities that stem from regional economic concerns and priorities. Multimedia highlights include “Computer-Assisted Audiovisual Language Learning,” in which Lijuan Wang and her colleagues from Microsoft Research Asia discuss the technologies underlying Engkoo, a Web-based computer-assisted audiovisual language-learning service that combines two emerging speech processing technologies — talking head and phonetic similarity search. In addition, Charles Severance celebrates the 100th anniversary of Alan Turing's birth in video interviews with Paul Kellar, Kevin Murrell, and Joel Greenberg of the National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park.
