This special issue situates the story of Algol in the larger historiography of software and provide a unique contribution to the history of this important early programming language. The articles in this special issue on Algol are the product of a research project highlighting the role of IT in the development of Europe called Software for Europe (SOFT-EU), which was part of a larger European Science Foundation's Eurocores program called Inventing Europe. Seeking Editor in Chief for IEEE Annals of the History of Computing

The IEEE Computer Society seeks applicants for the position of editor in chief, serving a two-year term starting 1 January 2015. Prospective candidates are asked to provide (as PDF files), by 31 August 2014, a complete curriculum vitae, a brief plan for the publication's future, and a letter of support from their institution or employer. Applicants will be notified of the search results shortly after the November 2014 CS Board of Governors meeting. More information
