In the past twenty years, autonomous agents and multiagent systems (MASs, or agents) and data mining and knowledge discovery in databases (KDD, or data mining) have emerged as two of the most prominent, dynamic, and exciting research areas in information sciences. They've evolved with well-defined, yet distinct, aims and objectives to pursue methodologies and techniques to cope with the challenges of their respective areas.
