How to Form a Chapter
Within the IEEE Computer Society there are two types of chapters you may form: regular professional chapters and student branch chapters.
Chapters
A Chapter is a geographical subunit of the Computer Society and established by petition to the IEEE and the Computer Society. Chapters are concerned with representing and fulfilling the
needs of the member in their specific geographical area. Chapters
allow members to meet face to face and host local activities
In order to form a chapter you will need to have at least twelve (12) members, above student grade, who are members of the society
(fewer may be accepted for joint chapters), to sign and submit a
chapter petition.
Student Branch Chapters
In order to form a student branch chapter it is necessary to have (or start) an IEEE student branch. If a branch already exists you will need a faculty advisor who is also a member of the Computer Society and 12
student members. Fill out and submit the chapter petition. If the petition is in order, IEEE student services will take the necessary action to obtain formal approval of the petition by the regional director, the regional student activities committee chair, and the Computer Society President.
