Proposing a Book Every publisher relies on a proposal to evaluate your idea for a book. A proposal allows you to put your best foot forward as a writer; the more fully you can show that you've considered all the elements of your book's topic, scope, importance, and target audience, the better a publisher can envision the book fitting in among its collection of titles. In addition to the CS Press standard proposal form, a summary and table of contents lets our technical experts suggest possible additions or modifications to the book, and sample chapters show us your writing style. A well-crafted proposal also lets us think about the number and type of customers who will want to read your book, how we might market to them, and what special services such a book might require during production (extensive figure illustration and format of the book, for example). So if it seems like our proposal form asks a lot of questions, it does. But should your proposal be accepted, each bit of that information will be valuable in helping to market your book.
