IEEE Computer Society 60th Anniversary History Competition Winners Russian Team Wins Computer History ContestA team from the Russian State Technological Institute in Moscow won the IEEE Computer Society 60th Anniversary History Competition (CHC60) with its website on the Russian Shoty. CHC60 encouraged teams of four undergraduate students to work together as a team to design, research, and implement a high-quality website. The aim of the competition was to make students aware of the rich and exciting history of the computer as well as stress the importance of transferable skills such as time management and the division of a major task among a group of people. The competition is part of a series of events throughout 2006 to celebrate the IEEE Computer Society’s 60th anniversary. “The judges were impressed with the Russian State Technological Institute’s site. The site was well laid out and easy to navigate. They presented their topic in an interesting and informative manner.“ said Dr. Alan Clements, chair of the competition and a professor at the University of Teesside in Teesside, UK. Nearly seventy teams from sixty-three universities in twenty-seven countries vied for a First Place prize of $10,000, generously provided by Northrop Grumman. The Russian State Technological Institute will travel to the IEEE Computer Society's Board of Governor's meeting in San Diego to be presented with their award by Paul Conoval, Chief Technology Officer for Northrop Grumman Information Technology/TASC.
