Two projects that have developed task-based interfaces that could revolutionize the traditional files-and-folder GUI approach to desktop computing. Mylyn, an open source model for the Eclipse platform, has impressed developers who have tested the prototype. SmartDesktop offers knowledge workers a different way to use Microsoft Office and Outlook.
