The Effect of Morphological Filters on Texture Boundary Localization

Abstract—We extend the theoretical results in [1] to two distributions and provide a quantitative comparison of 1D morphological filter edge localization with two classical types of kernel-based smoothing filters (the mean and the close relative to morphological filters, the median). Implications in the context of statistical texture segmentation are briefly discussed.
