Bluetooth in the m-Enterprise: True Blue Believers?
Las Vegas, Nevada
April 28-April 30
ISBN: 0-7695-1916-4
Elaine Lawrence, University of Technology Sydney
Bluetooth mobile technology has the potential to transform the way in which people live and work and is predicted to become a key driver in adding convenience for both mobile payment and security in an m-commerce environment. The technology is mature and, in Europe, Asia and the United States, it is being implemented in innovative ways that show it is both workable and practical. The paper provides a synopsis of Bluetooth Technology and reports on successful implementations in enterprises in the education, automobile, finance and leisure industries. In Australia although preliminary research has revealed a high awareness of Bluetooth, availability of such devices is extremely problematic. The core of this preliminary study is to examine Bluetooth implementations in Europe, the USA and Asia and to report on the disconnect between awareness and availability that exists in Australia which is often thought of as a technically savvy nation.
