The Multidisciplinary Engineering Curriculum Development Group at the University of Minnesota is creating computer-based instructional modules on the fundamentals of fluid mechanics for second-year engineering students. A team of faculty is collaborating with professional instructional designers, editors, and programmers. The modules focus on fundamental concepts and feature closely integrated graphical and mathematical representations with a minimum of descriptive and interpretative text. The paper describes the instructional materials and strategies that have been developed in the fundamentals of fluid mechanics and describes some of the testing and evaluation that has been conducted.
