To investigate the effects of related policies on optimal scheduling of cascaded reservoirs, an optimization model considering policy factors is proposed. The object of the model is to maximize the sum of the power profits and the value of final stored water of the system in a finite planning horizon and water relation, power balance, reservoir capacity and discharge rate are regarded as constraints. More important, such policy factors as power price, dispatch mode, flood control and shipping requirement are taken into account simultaneously, i.e., the power price is introduced into the object function of the model and the latter three factors are drawn into constraints. How to set theses policy factors and change the form of the model accordingly is analyzed in detail according to different policy environment. The significant implications of these policy factors on the optimal operation of the system can be revealed by solving this proposed model and some simulations.
