Identifying Service Requirements in Solution and Infrastructure Improvement Projects

Service requirements have been studied from a number of perspectives, for example, for service-providing software or software outsourcing. Our recent project experience in a solution project shows that the contract between the customer and the contractor of a solution and infrastructure improvement project can impose a large number of service-related requirements. Those requirements focus on the quality of the work to be done, for example, installation, construction, documentation and approval, craftsmanship quality, software engineering practice, inspection, post-project services and warranty. Those requirements are often embedded into the product quality and equipment functional requirements. However, they often need "testing" that is different from testing a product function. The challenge is how to identify those requirements early, trace them explicitly and plan proper methods to fulfill them.
