Despite the huge number of architectural languages that have been proposed in the last two decades, there is today evidence that industry-ready, well-accepted, and recognized languages for producing architecture descriptions are still missing. This article explores architectural languages usability requirements from the perspectives of language definition, language mech- anisms, and tool support. With a better understanding of architectural languages requirements, we explore how to make use of Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) to realize new generation architectural languages. We also discuss other related limitations of MDE techniques.
