ABSTRACT
The traditional cloud computing model for enterprise applications is increasingly being adapted to support mission-critical applications in systems comprising clusters of mobile and distributed embedded platforms. Architecting the software for these systems incurs many challenges, including effective resource management while ensuring performance and security isolation of applications. Additionally, a rapid prototyping environment that ensures well-formed applications is essential. We have developed a practical solution that incorporates modern software development practices and technologies along with novel approaches to address these challenges. The solution consists of a development tool suite as well as a runtime distributed software platform. The patterns and principles exhibited by our design will serve as guidelines for practitioners in this field.
