With the increasing complexity of systems and the pervasive usage of multicore technology, increasing numbers of problems can only be diagnosed via tracing tools. Author Dominique Toupin introduces the open source Linux Trace Toolkit Next Generation (LTTng) and describes how to use it. He also briefly introduces additional tracing tools. I look forward to hearing from both readers and prospective authors about this column and the technologies you want to know more about.
