The authors propose a theme model that differentiates three kinds of landmark themes: temporal themes, which happen at a specific moment; local themes, which characterize local characteristics; and general themes, which most landmarks share. Based on the model, the authors created a framework with three modules: data preparation, theme modeling, and theme analysis. In the data preparation phase, landmark photos are first downloaded and then preprocessed. Next, theme modeling identifies the three types of themes. Finally, the discovered themes are analyzed, including the themes' landmark-specific time distribution and time-specific location distribution.
