A little over ten years ago, we wrote "The Inevitability of Reconfigurable Systems" for the October 2003 issue of ACM Queue. We expected reconfigurable systems to be widespread within ten years. This didn't happen. It didn't even happen in mobile devices, where we saw the greatest technical need. Below we review our predictions and we reassess the prospects for reconfigurable systems.
