A Cost-Effective RISC/DSP Microprocessor for Embedded Systems

Applications in the area of telecommunications or multimedia require a new generation of fast and flexible microprocessors. A new 32-bit RISC microprocessor with extended functionality for digital signal processing is presented, which makes the use of dedicated digital signal processors superfluous and reduces overall system cost. Due to an optimized design with just 210,000 transistors, this medium-to-high-performance, low-cost microprocessor is well suited for a wide range of embedded systems applications.
