Most mergers and acquisitions fail to meet expectations and information systems (IS) integration is a major source of these problems. This paper offers guidance for managers to proactively assess IS-integration risks and identify possible resolution actions. We identified the key risks related to the context, content, and process of IS integration based on a systematic analysis of cases reported in the literature. Then, we identified key resolution strategies. Finally, we integrated these findings into a comprehensive framework that helps managers engage key stakeholders, develop a detailed understanding of the complexities involved, and obtain an overview of the most important risks areas and resolution strategies.
