ABSTRACT
Industries such as financial services experience spam in the "low 90 percent range" according to one observer, compared to manufacturing, which typically sees its e-mail consisting of about 40 to 50 of percent spam. So there?s no doubt the problem is growing. Experts say, however, that there?s no quick fix coming anytime soon. An IT professional?s best bet, they say, in a combination of three basic categories of defenses: software, hardware appliances, and outsourced services. This article describes all three, and explains why legislation can help, but won't stop spam.
INDEX TERMS
spam, intrusion protection, computer zombies, denial of service
