The Internet Engineering Task Force is beginning work on a standard for internationalizing email addresses, not quite a year after it codified RFC 3490, the standard for internationalized domain names. The discussion surrounding RFC 3490 was prolonged and passionate, and those in the center of it expect the debate surrounding internationalizing email addresses should prove just as boisterous, for both good and ill.
