AI use is increasing in many areas of commercial technology, including business intelligence, speech and handwriting recognition, and security monitoring. At the same time, AI use is also growing in other areas, including technologies for assisting the disabled. This article explores ways researchers are using AI and computer-vision techniques to read sign language and improve mobility aids such as wheelchairs and walkers. This issue also includes news brief articles on shape-changing robots and using AI to simplify mobile recommendation technology.
