Editors' note: Multiprocessor SoCs are increasingly important for multimedia systems. This article presents a methodology for the architectural design of multimedia multiprocessor SoCs and illustrates its advantages using a generic implementation of a real-time gesture recognition application. The proposed methodology covers all the important architectural aspects, from processor allocation to memory and network design.
