A Continuous Media I/O Server and Its Synchronization Mechanism

Acme, a network server for digital audio and video I/O, is presented. Acme lets users specify their synchronization requirements through an abstraction called a logical time system. The nature of logical time systems is discussed, some examples are given, and their implementation is addressed.
