Digital Teaching Files in Diagnostic Imaging

This article presents an architecture for a hospital-wide digital teaching file in radiology. We designed it for the next generation of networked-based education in diagnostic imaging. This architecture builds on top of existing clinical information systems in radiology, particularly the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and radiology information systems, as well as recent advances in Internet technology. We illustrate the potential of a networked teaching file with applications developed in UCSF hospitals.
