Not too long ago, PC-based CAD was used only for simple drafting functions by companies that couldn't afford anything better. Now it has become a force driving the CAD industry, and manufacturers of traditional mini and mainframe-based systems are playing their respects by marketing PC-CAD systems of their own. AS much as anything else, new computer and graphics hardware developed in the past few years has made this shift possible.
