In the May issue of
Computer
Members of the ITRS working group in emerging research devices present their view of emerging nanoscale memory and logic devices; morphic or hybrid architectures such as CMOL (molecule on CMOS) that can offer orders-of-magnitude improvements in analog computing, image-processing or -recognition applications, and intelligent-computing problems; and a new class of emerging devices that may require alternatives to Boolean logic and a functional organization other than a von Neumann architecture. Other topics covered in this issue include the functioning of the Antikythera mechanism, an ancient astronomical calculator; a video-based platform for human-computer interaction; and the use of ad hoc networks to supplement wireless networks for patient monitoring.
